In #34, we see Kraven dressed like Spider-Man, luring him into a trap. Sound familiar? It should. It’s the basic premise of one of the most famous, best Spider-Man stories of all time: Kraven’s Last Hunt.
Overall, though, the quality of these issues is below the stellar bar Lee/Ditko raised in the first 33 issues of the Spider-Man run. For example, we see The Looter for the first time, a really, really stupid villain.
The pressure of the battles between Stan and Steve must have been affecting the quality of the work. The good news is, when Ditko departs, John Romita signs on….And he (and his son, too) is just as good as Ditko.
